Assessment on this project will follow my Quality Point model, described here.Grades_Steps.png

Your grade will be divided into two parts: Design and Device. The grade for each category is independent of the others. To earn these grades, you will present these three elements to class:
  • a Logic Diagram;
  • a Truth Table;
  • a Wiring Diagram; and
  • a Device ready to be used as a Friendship Detector.
Missed deadlines will result in a deduction of one letter grade.

Design

Average/satisfactory designs (C for CP, D for Honors) will have:

  • a Logic Diagram and Truth Table submitted on time, using:
    • Three AND switches, or
    • Three OR switches;
  • logical conditions that are interesting and personal;
  • a Wiring Diagram (or screenshot from the Circuit Construction Kit).

Good designs (B for CP, C for Honors) will have all of the qualities of an average design and:

  • logical conditions that employ at least one OR connection and one AND connection.

Excellent designs (A for CP, B for Honors) will have all of the qualities of a good design and:

  • four different logic conditions.

Amazing designs (A+ for CP, A for Honors) will have all of the qualities of an excellent design and:

  • two different wiring diagrams that would accomplish the same outcome.

Device

Average/satisfactory devices (C for CP, D for Honors) will be:

  • less than 75 cm in the sum of height, width, and depth;
  • made with nothing but junk drawer parts (no building kits or technical assistance from others).

Good devices (B for CP, C for Honors) will have all of the qualities of an average device and:

  • complete its task for two testers, without intervention.

Excellent devices (A for CP, B for Honors) will have all of the qualities of a good device and:

  • hide its logical connections from view.

Amazing devices (A+ for CP, A for Honors) will have all of the qualities of an excellent design and:

  • a "master-switch" that allows all input conditions to be answered without revealing the output; and
  • aesthetic or dramatic elements that make the detector memorable.
